Welcome to GreenItUp, a database of common items, and how to reduce, reuse, and recycle them.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Floppy Disks

Includes 3.5″ or 5.25″ floppy disks/diskettes.

Reduce

Use a USB flash drive instead of floppy disks. Floppy disks are unreliable and hold 1.4MB of data, whereas most flash drives these days hold at least 1GB (~1,000MB) and are a lot more reliable (but you should still backup!). It’s also more common to find computers with USB ports than with floppy disk drives, although they’re not mutually exclusive.

If you want to transport the file between two computers with internet connection, e-mail the file to yourself. Virtually all e-mail services these days allow attachments larger than what a floppy disk can hold.

Reuse

Make a floppy disk bag with 3.5″ floppies.

Recycle
